Google Cloud Printing technology

It’s not just phones that have become smarter, your printer have too. Many modern printers give you the facility to print from your Android smartphone or tablet by establishing a connection with them via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB technology. But, in case you have a printer that doesn’t have this facility, still you can turn it into a hub from where you can print your documents by phone. In order to achieve that, all you will have to do is register your printer with the Google Cloud Print, which is a service by Google that lets you connect your printer to the web so that you access it from wherever you are. It will even let you make the printer public so that you can share it with your friends.

This service usually works with all printers but it would be best of you have a Cloud Ready printer as those directly connect to the internet without the need of an intermediary computer. Below are steps you will have to take to register a computer that is not Cloud Ready in order to be able to access it over the internet.

Registering your printer

1: Launch Google Chrome.

2: Click the menu button which is typically shown as an icon having three horizontal bars at the upper right corner of the browser window.

3: Click on Settings.

4: Select ‘Show advanced settings’ at the bottom of this page.

5: Find the Google Cloud Print section and then click on ‘Add printers’.

6: Log on to your Google account to enter the Google Cloud Print Service.

7: Once you are logged in the service, select ‘Add Printer; to confirm.

8: Your printer is now registered.

This service works through Google Chrome. Once you send a request to print something on Google Cloud Print through your phone, the service forwards this request to Chrome which then tells the computer to print the page. So, make sure that your computer and printer are on and that you are logged into your Google Chrome when sending a printing command.
