Sony Camera Technology included with New Smartphone Range; Sony Honami (Sony i3)

Sony Xperia Logo

Sony Camera Technology has always been pretty decent, with them implementing Android on their new Galaxy Camera it seemed as though Sony was getting the mix right. If there’s a company that are trying to carve a path for themselves right now, it’s Sony. After the Xperia Z and ZL, it seems that Sony are looking to capitalize on their imaging prowess and launch a smartphone that features some truly awesome photographic power.

This is the reversed method of putting Sony’s Camera Technology,  we’ve also heard rumors of a CyberShot smartphone before in the form of the Honami and now, it looks like more info about the device has surfaced.

Over at the Esato forums, there’s been some rumbling over just what the device’s specs might be, we’ll just let you run through them below:

  • 5 inch Full HD (XR5) Reality / Triluminos Display with X-Reality
  • S800 + Adreno 330, clock unknown ( XR5)
  • 2 GB RAM +
  • 32gb with micro sd slot (XR5)
  • 8/13/16.2 Mp camera, with BIONZ mobile (XR5) ..1/1.5″/1.1.6 ( XR5) exmor RS. All new image processing algorithim(XR5), G Lens (XR5), Xenon Flash/Dual Led/Plasma flash.
  • Said to beat all Android cameras
  • S Master Walkman mobile (XR5)
  • Liquid Magnetic Mobile Speaker
  • 3000 mAh battery +(XR5)
  • Glass + Metal body with Carbon Fibre (XR5)
  • Android 4.2.2/whatever the next version is
  • IP58 certification
  • New Revamped UI

As you can see, there seems to be a little confusion over just what this latest Xperia is going to bring to the table but, one thing seems pretty clear right now, and that’s that this upcoming smartphone will be packing the Exmor RS camera sensor, which is larger than some of Nokia’s sensors and will definitely give the UltraPixel sensor more than a run for its money. Interestingly, the device might be called the Xperia i1, to tie into the One Sony campaign that Sony are working on right now. While I can see that there might be some confusion over just what the i1 means to consumers, I could certainly use a break from all these letters Sony are fond of using.

The Xperia i1 is said to be hitting the US completely unlocked this Fall, which seems like an interesting move considering how long the Xperia Z is taking to make its way stateside. Pricing is going to be very important as the Xperia Z and the Xperia ZL seem to be running a little steep for most consumers. I suspect with it harbouring Sony Camera Technology I think this will fall into the same sort of high price bracket.

Let us know what you think of these rumors in the comments below.
