Samsung Comment on S4 Storage; Accept it; There’s an SD Slot

We recently heard that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is plagued with a lot of bloatware, at least that’s the only real explanation for how much internal storage is used up. In the 16GB Galaxy S4 model, there’s only about 9GB of usable space left. Samsung’s TouchWiz system and its related apps take up nearly 7GB of space. Some people are okay with TouchWiz and that’s fine, but for those who aren’t okay with it 7GB is quite excessive.

When people found out how much space was used by TouchWiz in the Galaxy S4, there weren’t many folks that were happy about it. In fact, there’s still quite a discussion going on via the social channels. The issue is so timely, that Samsung recently spoke up on the matter:

“For the Galaxy S4 16 GB model, approximately 6.85 GB occupies the system part of internal memory, which is 1 GB bigger than that of the Galaxy S3, in order to provide a high resolution display and more powerful features to our consumers. To offer the ultimate mobile experience to our users, Samsung provides a microSD slot on Galaxy S4 for extension of memory.”

In a roundabout way, Samsung just told everyone to deal with it. Considering the fact that you can install an SD card up to 64GB in size, it’s possible that Samsung is warranted in their response. That is neither here nor there, however.

The real question is: will this be the norm from Samsung, and more importantly will it be the norm from all mobile manufacturers? The argument about whether or not devices should include an external storage slot is often swayed by personal preference. If devices are going to be pre-loaded with this much content from the start, then MicroSD expansion slots are certainly necessary.

If you like to store music or video files on your device than 9GB isn’t much to work with. It will be used up fast, especially when you start installing games and apps.

Do you have a Galaxy S4? What’s your take on this matter? Are you bothered by the space that TouchWiz takes up or could you care less?

  1. Howdy would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re using? I’m going to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a tough time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S Apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!

    • Hi There, its fine don’t worry. In my eyes the BEST Blogging platform, all round is WordPress, the support, plugins and the rest are just better than the other platforms. However, each Platform has its own Pro’s and Con’s of course, but if you asked me to recommend one, it would definitely be WordPress. Best of luck on your blogging venture!

  2. Nice post. I learn something new and challenging on blogs I
stumbleupon every day. It’s always useful to read through content from other authors and use a little something from other websites.
