Recently there’s been some big hype around the movement to cloud storage solutions and although there are already a vast array of Cloud Services to choose from with some major players such as Dropbox, and Google Cloud people still seem to worry about their personal, private and often confidential data.
This could be for many reasons, one may be that the options of Cloud Storage just aren’t pushed and publicised enough. Another reason could be that perhaps some think these services are going to be difficult to use, considering its “In the Cloud”. I myself can vouch for this, as unfortunately my father is still mastering the power button to his laptop!
Never the less there are still huge amounts of data being stored online, using the various Cloud Storage options available to users and it seems that Verizon is ready for a piece of the action. Verizon released a statement along with the announcement of the app saying:
For many smart phone users, the content stored on their device is considered to be more valuable than the device itself.
This is a very good point, as the way mobile devices are going nowadays, they store more than just your personal photos. Which is very important in itself, but now people store Documents, Files and in my case, order receipts CV’s etc.
From Verizons statements it seems that they’re aiming to be a very simple and efficient way of users backing up their important data. The app also allows methods of moving your content from one device to another. Which means that Verizon’s customers are going to be very happy about the new offerings, as it’ll make an upgrade a breeze. Transferring your data from your old device to your new using an app released by your carrier, all sounds very appealing to me and I’m sure it will to others.
The App can currently backup:
- Call Logs
With an accompanying Desktop app for ease of use on your PC
Verizon cloud starts at 500MB for free, with various upgrade options available, Including; 25GB for $2.99, 75GB for $5.99 and 125GB for $9.99 monthly. This is a fairly competitive offer from Verizon, especially as an incentive to customers currently using Verizon services.
The only downside right not is device support, which include a fairly small amount of devices, and surprisingly holds none of the flagship devices recently. The Devices are:
- Motorola Droid X
- Motorola Droid X 2
- Motorola Droid 2 Global
- HTC Thunderbolt
- HTC Incredible
- HTC Incredible 2
- Samsung Droid Charge
- Samsung Fascinate
- Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2″ Tablet
- Motorola Droid Xyboard 10.1″ Tablet
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
- Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
